Hua Hin, Thailand, 9 June 2018 — Don’t be surprised if you see an unusually high number of golf bags at Bangkok airport this weekend. Golfers from all over the world, almost 600 from 24 countries in fact, are converging on Hua Hin in Thailand for the biggest tournament for club golfers in all of Asia.

The fifth installment of the Centara World Masters Golf Championship runs 10 to 15 June 2018. This week-long celebration of golf, entertainment and fun kicks-off with a glamorous dinner beachside at the iconic Centara Grand Beachfront Resort. The hotel’s 16 acres of manicured gardens, with giant frangipani trees, lotus ponds, hedges and topiary, shaped into rabbits and elephants, is transformed into a magnificent entertainment precinct where golfers will revel into the night.

“Centara Hotels & Resorts is pleased to be hosting Asia’s leading amateur golf tournament for the fifth successive year and we look forward to meeting a great number of new golfers as well as welcoming back the many familiar faces who attend the event year after year”, said Thirayuth Chirathivat, CEO of Centara Hotels & Resorts.

You don’t have to be a champion golfer to play in the Centara World Masters Golf Championship. In fact, the only entry requirement is that you must be 35 years or older. One of the event’s great traditions is that you play with golfers of a similar age and standard.

This 72-hole tournament is hosted at Hua Hin’s premier championship resort courses. Black Mountain consistently ranked the number one course in Asia, Banyan, Springfield and Imperial Lake View make up the four-course rotation for all players.

Thai Beverage, makers of Chang beer, are an event sponsor and it seems golf must be thirsty work. More than 10,000 waters and 8,000 Chang beers are consumed at the golf courses and scheduled events. There’s also free wine at the nightly 19th Hole events. This sounds like one hell of a party.

Deputy Governor for Marketing Communications of Tourism Authority Of Thailand, Tanes Petsuwan said, “We are delighted to be welcoming golfers from the entire world – lots of whom are repeat travelers – to Hua Hin to compete in the fifth Centara World Masters Golf Championship. The award-winning golf courses, impeccable accommodation and friendly Thai hospitality are sure to make this event yet another success.”

Supersports, Thailand’s largest sports retailer with 74 stores across the country, is another high-profile event sponsor. “Supersports are proud to sponsor the Centara World Masters Golf Championship. We believe that our stores are highly appealing to the golfer clientele. We have a Golf Lab at our CentralWorld Flagship Store to help golfers with the selection of golf equipment. Our team is looking forward to welcome the golfers to our various Supersports stores” said Tony Morton, President of Supersports.

This tournament is a collaboration between Australian based Go Golfing, who have been hosting World Masters Golf events around the world for 23 years, and Thailand based Golfasian who look after more golfers travelling to Asia than any other golf tour operator.

Repeat participant Kevin Airey highlighted that “This year was my third year at the Centara Masters and I cannot emphasize how much this event has now become my yearly hiatuses. Not only playing the sport I love but catching up with other likeminded people from around the world who have become acquaintances. Staff at Centara are very friendly and I am amazed that every year they remember who I am and greet me with a smile and hug.”

Keen to play? You’re too late to join this year’s Centara World Masters but I’m reliably informed it happens in June every year.  And, if that’s too long to wait, then check out the Go Golfing / Golfasian week-long tournaments in Pattaya in September and Chiang Mai in October.
